St. John’s offers an amazing variety of ways for adults to get involved, meet new friends, and be of service. There’s always something to do at St. John’s UCC!
Christian Education for Adults
Follow signs or ask for directions, and we will be glad to assist you! Adults are welcome in any adult class. Sunday School is at 9:15am.
Paul Class (Adults): This class uses a variety of materials and videos to stimulate thinking and discussion. The Bible is the basis for study and a source of guidance in discussion of problems and concerns in today’s world. This class holds social events and works on annual charitable projects.
Contemporary Class: Current issues that affect our community and the world are the beginnings for discussion and study with scripture as the foundation for problem solving. Book studies on timely subjects are included in the materials used during the year.
Rainbow Class: During book studies, this class discusses concepts and methods as they explore the struggles and questions involved in our faith journeys.
Young Adult Class: This class, ideal for young parents and college students, tackles modern issues and digs deeper into our faith.
United Church of Christ Denomination Website: click here. Curious about the UCC? Resources available for Young Adults, Families, Men, Women, Older Adults, and great information about Christian Education, Congregational Vitality, Stewardship, Worship, News, Outreach, Church Seasons, and much more.
Devotionals: We offer two daily devotional magazines – The Upper Room and These Days (Presbyterian / UCC). If you haven’t started a daily devotional & prayer time, it’s a lovely way to start (or end) a busy day. As a family or in private, be a part of world-wide unity as readers learn, read the Bible, and pray together day by day.

There are also Christian-themed books on tape, self-help books, educational materials, DVD’s, and more in our Library (in the Old Parsonage) as well as the Knox County Public Library and Vincennes University Shake LRC. Please ask at the Church Office if you would like to visit our library.
Co-Ed Baseball / Basketball Team (Seasonal): Must be 13+ and attend church weekly. Games take place at Community United Methodist Church (Hart Street Rd.)
Women’s Guild: The Women’s Guild has disbanded but continue to meet informally on the second Thursday of most months at Dot’s Restaurant. They are still involved in bereavement dinners and collecting certain items to be recycled or donated to charitable organizations (click the link to see what is collected). Women of all ages are invited.
A Special Note for Young Adults: Maybe you have grown up at St. John’s and feel you’re ready for a more adult role. Or maybe you’ve grown up in another denomination, or no church at all, and are checking us out for the first time. Maybe you’re looking for a place to call home, or fit in. At St. John’s we have so many ways for you to get involved in something larger than yourself, accomplish something meaningful, and get to know others. While we have wonderful opportunities for children, youth, and families, you do not have to be parents or married to be welcome at St. John’s. This is a place where you don’t have to be rich, beautiful, popular, or “normal’, or belong to the right “clique” or family, to be heard and make a difference.
Make a Difference
At St. John’s UCC, your time, effort and skills are just as valuable and appreciated as financial contributions. Serve a meal, help mothers earn baby supplies by going to doctor’s appointments, help people by supplying them with toiletries and cleaning supplies…those are just three of the many ways you can make a huge difference in the lives of the less fortunate. From volunteering at the Animal Shelter to traveling for work projects in hard-hit disaster areas, St. John’s UCC is well-known in Vincennes for its involvement in outreach & mission work. It’s a fantastic way to see how great it feels to join in and make a difference. We need people to pass out Bulletins, join the Sanctuary Choir, help serve at Loaves & Fishes, read the Liturgy, teach a class, sing a solo, assist with photocopying, drive people to church, visit the sick, help in the kitchen or nursery, help with repairs or decoratin, and many other things. The more you do, the more you want to do! Interested in decision making? Do you have ideas about how to make St. John’s UCC a better church? Perhaps the best way is to join one of our committees. Our committees offer many ways for you to meet others, collaborate, and solve problems.
“The highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service. The greatest form of praise is the sound of consecrated feet seeking out the lost and helpless.” —Billy Graham
