Monetary donations are also much appreciated as we purchase in bulk and buy fresh fruit. Just mark it some way so someone will know to put it in our fund.
November 2017: I want to give a big shout out THANK YOU to our KFC and M&M's for the wonderful hygiene kits they put together for the kids who get Backpacks of food in the Vincennes Community School Corporation. They did such a great job, and the items enclosed were greatly appreciated. Thank you to all who donated product, and again, THANK YOU to our youth. You are awesome. ~~~Kathy Clinkenbeard, Backpacks of Love for VCSC Coordinator
November 2017: A big thank you to our Benevolence Committee for remembering Backpacks of Love for VCSC. Your $500 donation will help feed some hungry children this month. I wish I could let you hear all the wonderful words of appreciation I hear at school for the bags. It takes churches like ours to help these children make it in this world. It takes a village to raise a child, and St. John's is a wonderful village for children in Vincennes. Thank you so much for the donation. ~~~Kathy Clinkenbeard, Backpacks of Love for VCSC Coordinator
November 2017: It's that time of year to start thinking about giving to others who could use our help. Again this year, I am putting together boxes for our KIDS HOPE USA kids and their families as well as the children at Riley who are on the Backpacks of Love for VCSC program. After talking to Jessica and Jerri, it looks like we need to build 30 food boxes. Each box will have enough food for a family of 4-5 for 3-4 days. On top will be a Christmas message to the family from our church. Hopefully this will help each family during the Christmas Break. If there is anyone who would like to donate to this project you can do so, by giving a check to the church office marked "Christmas Boxes." These families do appreciate all we do to help them out as they struggle to make ends meet. Thank you so much for considering this project.
August 2017: On August 6, the M&M/KFC (age 4 to 6th grade) will be doing a service project with Backpacks of Love. The group will be packaging care packages at 5:00pm in the Fellowship Hall for the outreach program for future distribution. The care packages will include a toothbrush, bar soap, and other health/body supplies. Come to this great activity to help with this outreach project! Friends and family are welcome to come also. There will also be sandwiches and other snacks too! If there are any questions, let me know! ~~Will Meyer, Children and Family Ministry Coordinator
June/July 2017: As the school year is coming to an end, I look back on how Backpacks of Love for VCSC has changed. First, we have grown from 10 bags week to 217 bags a week. From a small corner in the nursery to 6-6’ shelving units, and from 2 people filling to multiple groups. The need in this community seems to be never ending. I would like to say a special thank you to all the individuals who have continually supported the project and to the Benevolence Committee for their support this year. All of you are true blessing to these children. Looking ahead to next year, I need some physical help. Several individuals and groups that started with us are wanting to take a break. Below is list of areas that need filled with the approximate about of time it takes.
~~~Groups to Fill bags -about an hour with group of 6, usually done on a Thursday.
~~~Deliver Bags to the School – about 20 minutes on Friday morning
~~~Post information to Facebook - We have a page set up, but I do not post, so we need someone who can take pictures and information from me and spread the word. If anyone would like to help with any of these area, or have ideas on how to make it better, please let me know. I’m looking for good help and clever ideas, that’s why I’m looking to my church family. Thanks so much for ALL your support. ~~~Kathy
January 2017: During the month of January we will be collecting boxes of hot chocolate to distribute to the children who receive backpacks each week. On these cold days and nights ahead, nothing can be quite as comforting as a cup of hot chocolate. We need your help to make this possible for all our kids. Please leave your boxes of hot chocolate in the box in Memorial Hall. We will be sure to let you know how many we collect during the month of January. Thanks for your continued caring for the children of this community.
